As we continue to learn more about the wonderful benefits of the cannabis plant, our knowledge of cannabinoids also expands. You probably have heard of two main cannabinoids before, THC and CBD. But there are also lesser-known cannabinoids that are also beneficial like CBG.
CBG stands for cannabigerol. This compound is one of more than 120 cannabinoids found in cannabis. It was first isolated in 1964. There is still not a lot of research on CBG but there are some studies showing it holds many therapeutic benefits. It has also been shown to stimulate receptors that influence heat sensitivity, pain, and inflammation.
CBD stands for cannabidiol and is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis. CBD does not cause a “high” unlike THC. It also offers a range of therapeutic properties and acts on the endocannabinoid system in the body.
CBG and CBD have several differences. Some studies have shown the CBG and CBD have different effects on appetite stimulation. They also have different molecular structures. As more people are experiencing the benefits of cannabis and CBD first hand and interest rises, it's expected that more research will be done and new discoveries will be made about this incredible plant.
